fluke (Fasciola hepatica)
Description:. Flattened, leaf-like
brown worm.
Symptoms/Site of Disease: A pot-bellied
condition might appear. This is caused by escaped
fluids from damaged liver into the body cavity.
Geographic: Area, Environment: Much
the same pattern as occurs in cattle; southeastern
states along the Gulf, California, northwestern U.S.
and on irrigated pastures.
Prevention: Anthelmintic treatment
followed by good feeding program. Animals should be
removed from infested ground. Wet pastures should
be avoided.
Miscellaneous: Death may occur with
heavy infestations without apparent symptoms. Infection
can be transmitted to offspring. |
